There are various careers working with children, which range from working in schools to working in clinics and hospitals, and even at homes. People who took careers working with children also work as advocates, educators, child health professionals, and managers or directors. These careers working with children can also be part-time or full-time.

One of these careers working with children is becoming an educator. These educators can work in both public and private schools. Teachers and classroom assistants are responsible in facilitating learning among young learners. An educator can also work as a play worker or a sports coach, who assists in ensuring physical activity on children.

Being a counsellor is also one of careers working with children that is usually present in schools. These school counsellors can aid in coping with concerns that give stress to the child. Dealing with bullying, talking with parents, managing stress, improving the child’s performance, and getting higher grades are some issues in which a counsellor can help.

There are also some careers working with children that do not involve teaching but are working in schools and day care centers. In fact, social workers employed in elementary schools can work with students, teachers, and even parents or family members in order to resolve child-related issues, particularly in dealing with relationships. There are also day care owners, who ensure that the children in the day care centers are well taken care of.

Careers working with children in the health sector

Other careers working with children belong to the health sector. One of these careers working with children in the health sector is the pediatrician, a medical doctor who is trained to diagnose and manage childhood illnesses, as well as medical conditions of infants and adolescents. Working together with the pediatrician is the pediatric registered nurse, who is in charge of caring for children through routine screenings and performing acute care for children who are sick. The nurse may perform check-ups for those who are healthy. A pediatric nutritionist is also one of the careers working with children in the health sector, who works together with the pediatrician, nurse, and educators in addressing nutritional concerns, such as obesity.

Psychologists and therapists are also careers working with children, especially for children with special needs. Child psychologists can help children with learning disabilities or with physical disabilities. They can also help children who are in need of therapy and counselling. Meanwhile, speech pathologists aid in improving and overcoming difficulties in communication, such as difficulty in pronunciation. Physical therapists and occupational therapists can also work with children through encouraging play and physical activity. Support workers and social workers are also considered careers working with children with disabilities.

Other Careers working with children

A juvenile justice attorney is also one of the careers working with children. He or she works to ensure that the rights of the children (or minors) are attained and protected, especially for those who are victims of crimes. He or she may also defend a minor if that minor has been accused of a crime.

There are many other careers working with children, such as camp directors, librarians, and even babysitters. So the list of careers working with children seems endless, as long as there are children.
